caribou outfitters
Barren-ground caribou outfitters and their guides play a key role in the story of the caribou. Together with aboriginal hunters and scientists, professional outfitters are directly concerned with the health of the caribou herds. Members of the NWT Barren-Ground Outfitters Association are strong promoters of wise management, so that the caribou are preserved for all northerners, now and in the future.
The outfitters own and manage barren-ground camps north of the treeline, and across the broad sweep of the barren-grounds from Point Lake in the west to Lac de Gras in the east. Most are long time residents of the Northwest Territories, and some families have more than one generation involved in the business.
Barren-ground outfitters specialize in sharing the stories and experiences of the barren-grounds with their guests. They have built reputations for ethical, fair chase hunting and first class service. They have buildings and equipment at prime viewing locations to ensure the comfort and safety of their guests.
Hunters who visit barren-ground caribou camps are a unique group. Many are sophisticated international travelers. They respect the land, and the rules of fair hunt. Conservation minded, they value the barren-grounds experience as much as their hunt.
